Okay I have so much to say this might be a long comment. First let me say that I'm really excited that you're finally going to do this I have been reading your post since 2016 when you first started on medium to do the book that is let me just say that you mentioned the title "Small Press,Publishing for Profit" did well in search engines I would have to say that's because you've got too long tail keywords that are pretty low hanging fruit and already well established so if SEO is a consideration for this project I'd say stick with what you got. However, that leads me into the next statement " publishing for profit" is a pretty popular book in the industry although it hasn't been updated since 2014. I was wondering if you can include when you do the chapter on naming your business what to do if your name happens to be similar to an already established brand like how to set yourself apart. Because there's so much competition that it is hard not to have a name similar to somebody else's name. Oh there's also a part where you mentioned section or chapter on how to price a small press publication so the article that you wrote in medium about being a one person Publishing company I took that formula and put it into a spreadsheet and then I had to adjust it because you didn't account for months versus hours versus days and full-time versus part-time so if you would like to see it in the spreadsheet I have it. And I'd love to share it with you if you have time I don't want to keep you from writing more cuz I like reading your stuff. Okay and I'll stop for now because this post looks really long on my phone.
Hi! Thanks so much for sticking with me all these years. This is the first I'm hearing about "Publishing for Profit" 2014, I must get a copy and review it here (perhaps later in the project).
If your name happens to be similar to an already established brand, the thing to do is to ask either forgiveness or permission, in writing ideally. It can happen to any of us – in my case, there's an extinct US news organisation who've been hogging valleypress.com since 2006 without updating any of their websites. In the UK small press community, we have Dodo Ink and Dead Ink; allegedly a complete coincidence.
Please feel free to send over the spreadsheet and any more questions you might have – or keep them coming in the comments, who knows what might be valuable for other readers.
ok I send the spreadsheet through email hope you get it.
