Small Press Publishing Software
A guide to the applications and services that make Valley Press tick
It’s been hard to concentrate on publishing or writing this week, with events 2,000 miles away occupying a good portion of my (and I suspect, your) thoughts. I feel powerless in the face of such suffering – but as a small gesture, am pledging to donate one-third of all sales income via our web shop to the Red Cross’ Israel and Occupied Palestinian Territory Appeal, for at least the rest of October. It’s the most I can do right now, since I’m not a praying man – though this may be the time to start.
Life must go on, I suppose, so I’m here today with the latest instalment in my ongoing series “How to Be a Small Press Publisher” (see the index here). If you’ve just joined us, the series is a year-long effort to create the definitive guide to starting and operating a small press, covering every topic I can think of. In the post that follows, I’ll be sharing the key pieces of software that I use to edit, design and organise my books, as well as commenting on alternative options to suit all budgets. (Don’t worry though; it won’t be quite as dry as it sounds.)
